GENERAL INFO:Nepenthes ventrata is a hybrid of n.ventricosa and n.alata. The pitchers are vase-shaped and dual colored red and yellow. This plant is extremely vigorous with the available cuttings fully rooted and ready to up pot.
LIGHT: Most nepenthes prefer bright light although lowlanders can tolerate bright shade. Modular T5 grow lights are more than efficient and can be dialed up or down based on needs. Outdoor greenhouses in suitable climates may require shading. If leaves becomes discolored or splotchy with “burns” assume the plant is receiving too much light
ENVIRONMENT: Nepenthes are generally divided into highland and lowland species. Lowlanders prefer constant high temperatures and humidity while highlanders prefer cool night time temperature drops and cooler overall conditions. Research your species for exact conditions, but follow above guidelines for generalized results.
SOIL/MEDIA: We use an 80/10/10 mix of long fiber spaghnum, orchid bark and perlite for all nepenthes. Many species grow in mossy nooks and crannies on or near trees and dense brush for them to hook onto and climb.
WATERING: IMPORTANT: Ensure pitchers are refilled 1/3 with low TDS water. Top water as needed to keep the medium wet without water logging the roots. NEVER allow the medium to dry out and monitor the weight of the pot before and after watering. In drier climates or to extend time between waterings, use a shallow tray under the pot and water until 20-25% of the pot is covered, watering again when this water disappears or the pot becomes light in weight.
CONTAINERS: Nepenthes in general have very shallow, delicate roots. Always use pots with good drainage and avoid glazed or painted clay pots which can leech chemicals to the roots. **N ventrata is shipped in a 3 inch pot but are ready to up pot! transition to 10-12 inch well drained final pots, anticipating 1-5 gallon pots for large, mature vining plants.
