Stylidium affine or the Queen Triggerplant makes a strong argument as crown jewel of the trigger plants. This species boasts gorgeous pink moth-shaped flowers, an extremely large ‘trigger’ and also some of the most impressive trichomes of any Stylidium. The available plants are 1 year old seed grown specimen. **IMPORTANT FOR S.AFFINE** this species in particular, and more so than our other offered trigger plants is very sensitive to fertilizer! Use diluted fertilizer of choice and limit to once every two weeks. Avoid flower pedals (stem trichomes appreciated light fertilizer)

SCIENTIFIC NAME: Stylidium affine

COMMON NAME: The Queen Triggerplant

PLACE OF ORIGIN: Australia.

GENERAL INFO: Stylidium are comprised of roughly 300 species. The plants are generally easy to care for, thriving in simple soil mixes and tolerating a wide range of light and water levels. Most are considered ‘spreaders’ and fill pots quickly. The flowers are covered in sticky trichomes capable of catching and digesting small insects. The name ‘trigger-plant’ refers to the large floral structure which swings forward and hits pollinators as they fuss about for nectar. The trigger does NOT reset. (Like VFT’s, avoid over-stressing for show)

CULTIVATION REQUIREMENTS:

WATER:**MOST IMPORTANT FOR ALL STYLIDIUM** NEVR ALLOW THE MEDIUM TO FULLY DRY OUT
Overhead as needed, and tray method preferred. Tap water is okay depending on water quality. Water the medium from overhead until water flows from the bottom. A tray under the pot allows water to collect the keep the plant’s soil saturated. This species if very forgiving and bounces back from mild dry backs while also thriving in water-logged conditions.

LIGHT: Stylidium can tolerate varying light levels. Expect increased flower production in brighter light. 14-18 hours under LED grow lights or sunny-south facing windowsills will work best.

FERTILIZATION: We use MAXSEA fertilizer for all carnivorous plants, as these sensitive plants respond very well to this brand. The plants will naturally catch flying insects. Fertilize foilage once every 2 weeks in spring and summer, and once a month in winter. Fertilizer will burn flowers ** **IMPORTANT FOR S.AFFINE** this species in particular, and more so than our other offered trigger plants is very sensitive to fertilizer! Use diluted fertilizer of choice and limit to once every two weeks. Avoid flower pedals (stem trichomes appreciated light fertilizer)
