SCIENTIFIC NAME: Utricularia humboldtii.

COMMON NAME: Bladderwort.

PLACE OF ORIGIN: South America

GENERAL INFO: Utricularia humboldii is the largest of all utricularia! The plant grows inside or in between the leaves of bromeliads, including carnivorous bromeliads such as Brocchinia reducta and Catopsis berteroniana. Long photosynthetic stolons climb and reach into water filled leaf axils and begin rapidly creating new plants and bladders. U humboldtii also boasts the largest flowers in the genus.

CULTIVATION REQUIREMENTS:
WATER: Epiphytic Utricularia do best in well drained containers. Keep the medium wet, utilizing the tray method in drier conditions.

LIGHT: The more light given to Utricularia the more flowers you can expect throughout the year. The species can tolerate full sun or full spectrum LED grow lights for 18 hours a day. They also thrive on a sunny windowsills, but you should expect less flowers.

FERTILIZATION: We recommend using MAXSEA brand fertilizer for all carnivorous plants, as these sensitive plants respond very well to this brand. The plants will naturally catch soil dwelling micro-organisms but maxsea fertilizer can be applied to the foliage and soil. Fertilize once every 2 weeks in spring and summer, and once a month in winter. Never let fertilizer touch flowers!
