SCIENTIFIC NAME: Utricularia jitka
COMMON NAME: Bladderwort.
GENERAL INFO: U. jitka is a hybrid of U. quelchii and U. praetermissa. The cross was made in 2004 and is named after the creators friend. (Pronounced “yit-ka”.). U. jitka prefers slightly wetter conditions including a high water table and increased humidity to flower. This bladderwort has no dormancy period and reproduces itself quickly.
CULTIVATION REQUIREMENTS:
WATER: Keep permanently wet and utilize the tray method. Use low TDS or distilled/ RO water.
SOIL/MEDIUM: Pure long-fingered spaghnum moss
LIGHT: The more light given to Utricularia the more flowers you can expect throughout the year. The species can tolerate full sun or full spectrum LED grow lights for 18 hours a day. They also thrive on a sunny windowsills, but you should expect less flowers.
FERTILIZATION: We recommend using MAXSEA brand fertilizer for all carnivorous plants, as these sensitive plants respond very well to this brand. The plants will naturally catch soil dwelling micro-organisms but DILUTED maxsea fertilizer can be applied to the and soil. Fertilize once every 2 weeks in spring and summer, and once a month in winter. Never let fertilizer touch flowers!
