SCIENTIFIC NAME: Utricularia nelumbifolia

COMMON NAME: Bladderwort.

PLACE OF ORIGIN: South America (Brazil)

GENERAL INFO: Utricularia nelumbifolia is an adaptive and vigorous bladderwort which thrives in myriad environments, including wetlands, Rocky surfaces and most interestingly inside of the water wells of bromeliads. This bladderwort produces long, running stolons which it uses to drop down into the water wells of bromeliad in order to grow new plants. U.nelumbifolia produces tall, orchids-like flowers and large bladders.

CULTIVATION REQUIREMENTS:
WATER: Epiphytic Utricularia do best in well drained containers. Keep the medium wet, utilizing the tray method in drier conditions. this particular bladderwort does best inside of the water wells of bromeliads which provide the perfect humidity and acidity to thrive.

LIGHT: The more light given to Utricularia the more flowers you can expect throughout the year. The species can tolerate full sun or full spectrum LED grow lights for 18 hours a day. They also thrive on a sunny windowsills, but you should expect less flowers.

FERTILIZATION: We recommend using MAXSEA brand fertilizer for all carnivorous plants, as these sensitive plants respond very well to this brand. The plants will naturally catch soil dwelling micro-organisms but maxsea fertilizer can be applied to the foliage and soil. Fertilize once every 2 weeks in spring and summer, and once a month in winter. Never let fertilizer touch flowers!
