SCIENTIFIC NAME: Utricularia Sandersonii
COMMON NAME: Bladderwort. “Angry Bunnies”.
PLACE OF ORIGIN: South Africa
GENERAL INFO: Utricularia sandersonii is a terrestrial, often lithophytic bladderwort native to South Africa. U. sandersonii grows upon wet rocks or in very wet and sandy soils. U. Sandersonii is popular for its easy care requirements and
attractive, rabbit-like miniature flowers.
CULTIVATION REQUIREMENTS:
WATER: Watering depends on the use of either a drained or undrained pot. Terrestrial utricularia do well in either
type of container and if using an undrained pot, monitor the weight of the container to verify it stays saturated.. If
using a drained container, use the tray method, and set the container in a shallow tray of water at all times.
LIGHT: The more light given to U. Sandersonii the more flowers you can expect throughout the year. The species
can tolerate full sun or full spectrum LED grow lights for 18 hours a day. The species will also thrive on a
windowsill, but depending on light conditions may produce less flowers.
FERTILIZATION: We use MAXSEA brand fertilizer. The plants will naturally catch soil dwelling micro-
organisms but fertilizer can be applied to the soil. Fertilize once every 2 weeks in spring
and summer, and once a month in winter.
